The cornerstone of the African American Fire Fighter Museum is the education and inspiration of its visitors. Every year, students, teachers, and the general public participate in activities organized by the Education Department.

Recognizing the great diversity of its visitors, the Museum continues to develop innovative teaching methods to reach the broadest possible audience.

Your contribution to our education programs ensures the quality and variety of African American Fire Fighter Museum's services to its ever-expanding community.

Every year,  children, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, visit African American Fire Fighter Museum with their classes. The Education Department is dedicated to engaging these students and their teachers with an ongoing cycle of guided visits, teacher training, curriculum resource packets, and Museum information sheets.

The African American Fire Fighter Museum strives to reach beyond its walls into the surrounding community by collaborating with secondary schools and other institutions. One of our most popular community programs is "African American Fire Fighter Museum Goes to School," which brings artifacts directly into the classroom with slide lectures and activities led by Museum educators.

During the summer, groups from local day camps are invited to explore the Museum through special visits guided by our high school apprentices.
